Six Word Stories Omnibus: Volume One

“For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”

We think Mr. Hemingway may have been onto something with this six word story thing. They’re certainly a lot of fun to write, but perhaps it’s something he didn’t give a damn about beyond a means to make some quick cash off of his drinking chums. Those black market livers don’t pay for themselves!

However the six word story came about is possibly academic by this point. Perhaps the real point is to simply have fun with it. It’s an extreme version of flash fiction that many people seem to enjoy. Is it because we’re living in an ADD world? Or can meaning, and indeed entire tales, truly be conveyed in such micro-sized blips of verbiage?

Dear readers, we at Unbolt have been heartened by your enthusiastic response to our virgin attempts at composing our own six word stories. So, it’s without further ado that we introduce to you 17 true six word stories from yourselves, our loyal and talented fans!

We love you. Truly, we do. We don’t care about the colour of your skin or what religion you follow. There are more important things than being white, black, transparent or blue, and more important than dome shaped buildings, neon crosses and whether or not you know what Pascha is. (Is it a Slavic Easter or a brothel in Germany?) And even if you don’t celebrate your birthday, fuck it all! We love you, our dearest Readers!

Thank You!

It’s happiness and pride for every writer to get grateful and skilled readers, to inspire them, to encourage them for their own oeuvre. Honestly, when we started our trilogy, we didn’t expect such amazing feedback.

We were overwhelmed when we got such a brilliant spin-off of the first installment Bastet, a heartwarming and intimate story called Triune-Heartby Madam Marmoset. The second part Sekhmet was awarded with a colorful and daring dilogy In the Corner with Maftet in Bubastisby Jonathan Noble.

There are mixed feelings when you watch how your characters move out of your control; it’s a delightful mix of envy and pride. You try to guess their next step, and fail gladly. You want to predict the next twist, but you want even more than that to be surprised. It’s like laying an egg again. You never know what’s going to be inside. Bliss!

We always publish our guest posts with special feelings. We celebrate every new ‘like’ and every warm comment. We’re both very proud and happy.

Thank you, dear community, dear Writers and Readers, friends! Thank you!

Yours ever,
Tati & Tony

GUEST POST // Triune-Heart by Madam Marmoset

Pussy willow, pussy willow,
Where have you gone?
Hiding far away
From the madding throng.

Her feeble paw stretched out in a futile attempt to grab his attention. There was a new cat on the block, lean and lithe and graceful. The old cat had been ravaged by age and sorrow. Her face and body showed every single line of her life, every punch that had been thrown at her.

He sat there between his two lady loves, happy, content and blissful, blissful in the love that filled the room.

The old cat continued to stay lit upon his lap. He instinctively stroked her, tenderly, gently and often. She mewled and purred with pleasure.

The young newcomer quietly took up a position near the old cat. She was in sacred space now. The old cat was battered and bruised. Her beauty had been washed away by the tsunami of time. The new cat was a delicious mystery, exotic and unknown. That they should exist, side by side in harmony, in respect, was sublime. Pure love would prevail.

Energy shifts, exchanges, grows and releases. It sends forth its light into the universe. Somewhere, all this love and energy must have gathered to form starlight.

The old cat stirred restlessly. Yowling, she clawed into his hand gently, yet not enough to draw blood. She was weary and defeated. Her world was changing, crumbling. Chips were coming away and cracks appeared, but they were not enough for the eternal light of love to shine through. She shivered, cold and battered.

The young cat saw this and approached. She nuzzled the old cat lovingly. “You’re not old yet,” she was saying. “I need you to love me. I need you to teach me how to love this man. I need you to share this love with me.”

Sharing love, there’s a thought. If love is infinite, why should it not be shared? Starlight never fades. The universe is endless. Time flows, and life with it. Just as the shore changes over time with the tides, so love evolves, eroded by heartbreak that clears away the briar so that love’s purest nectar can come to rest.

The old cat stirred and wakened. She nudged her head against his arm. She noticed the new cat lying beside her. In a moment bound in starlight, she touched the new cat, both receiving and giving love.

The man sits there, happy and content, his lady loves entwined and bound in love for each other… and love for him.
