Seeing that people think it’s written in half-Russian, I wonder how many can truly appreciate this beautiful poem in half-Ukrainian. Lovely!

Дякую, моя люба Доллі! Так, це дійсно прикро, що українську мову часто ототожнюють із російською. C’est La Vie. 😛

Не треба, дорога Танечка, але ніхто не плутає іспанську мову з португальською. Це не справедливо!

Beautiful images. Poems can be bilingual or even plurilingual. I once made an attempt: https://momentsbloc.wordpress.com/2016/08/11/plurilingual/

I love what you’ve done with this, Marta. Was it terribly difficult to write? 🙂

No, because I speak and write in four languages: Catalan (mother tongue), Spanish (second language), English and German (learned later when I was 8 years old and 18 respectively). English and German are my work languages, but they also connect me with great friends, which makes me feel emotionally involved. In my school we, teachers, are trying to promote plurilingualism (not to be confused with multilingualism: https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-multilingualism-and-plurilingualism). My poem “Plurilingual” is meant to be an experiment in this field.

I honestly wish I’d been taught another language from when I was young, but in the years I was growing up our country didn’t value other languages and cultures very much. I think it would be very hard for me to learn another language at my age, but it’s possible I guess. Thank you for sharing, Marta. I really appreciate it.

It is never too late to learn another language. This is a false assumption. I have been working as a foreign language teacher for many years and with students of all ages. The people who learn most are those with great willpower, interest and persistence. Where there’s a will there’s a way. To acquire basic knowledge of a language is relatively easy, but to master it is almost impossible. I don’t even master my mother tongue, Catalan, so I am quite satisfied with my humble writing attempts in the other languages. Also, I am happy to have a few blog followers. 😎

Thank you, Marta. I’m going to renew my efforts to learn a bit of Ukrainian (or maybe Russian). You’ve been most encouraging! 😀
