If a man could live a thousand years,
When half his life had passed,
He might, by strict economy,
A fortune have amassed.
Then having gained some common-sense,
And knowledge, too, of life,
He could select the woman who
Would make him a true wife.
But as it is, man hasn’t time
To even pay his debts,
And weds to be acquainted with
The woman whom he gets.

I considered reading this to my wife, but decided life is already short enough.

Or, If Not.
Damn, it’s good things have changed since Dodge’s day,
Then men alone held the the right to pick and choose,
Who’d promise- be beholden- to honour, love and obey,
Now women strongly- loudly- retain their right to refuse.

Well put, my friend. I’d rather live in an age where things are more equal, that’s for sure!

Ah, the fallacy of the mating game. Does a man attract a woman, or does the woman attract the man. OR in the end do they just accept and take a chance?

I personally suspect it’s the last choice, but I could be wrong on that! 😆
