water supply (the rise and fall of jack & jill inc.)

jack and jill wanted to be good little entrepreneurs
so they went up the hill to sell a pail of water
but no coin was made ’cos no one wanted to climb
that big ass hill in the summer to buy water with a metallic aftertaste
that hadn’t been chilled or bottled or had a wedge of lime affixed to
so jack and jill came grumbling back down
and died in a cardboard hovel from dehydration and harsh market realities

  1. “Fee-fi-fo-fum,

I smell the work of the invisible hand,

Be it supply, or be it demand,

I’ll buy up widgets and make rational choices all things being equal.”

    Sorry.

Anyhow, really loved this. The nursery rhyme turned economics angle turned something dry into something quite wry! Well done!

  2. Jack and Jill were in cahoots long before this water thing
They made the pale their thing because of the economic down turn
The problem was the plastic bottle
    That shoved them out
    Fat city ever after
To the bottlers for edging the little ones out
    Great read
    love Jack and Jill
