a black river rolls its waters in state
past a dirty hut’s stoop and manor’s gate
a white nymphea on the satin river’s breast
eyes enthralled like a bride’s at a funeral fete
the young maiden stands on an old dam crest
folding a long wedding dress to her chest
a cold wind hugs her shoulders, her ideal mate
it whispers to her in feverous behest
a black river rolls its waters to the strait
aloof, indifferent, like the decrees of fate
the young maiden on the satin river’s breast
the hearse carries the bride to her wedding fete

Reminiscent of a Russian folk song, but very well expressed.

And given who wrote it, it doesn’t surprise me that it comes across as such! 🙂

My 14 year old granddaughter read a poem, she had written, to me the other day. It was really dark. Scared the hell out of me!

Well, I guess it’s better she expresses it than hides it away. Hee hee! 😛

Wow, a macabre tale told so beautifully. The emotions that this piece evinced almost made it feel like a requiem.
I especially loved the last line. Great work, Tony!

Oh, how I wish I could take credit for this one, my friend, but this is all Tati this time! And I agree with you. It’s much like a requiem, isn’t it! Thanks so much for visiting with us!

Such beautifully dark imagery! Maybe this explains the Bridezilla phenomena!
