rest now, sweet irish
as unforsaken
more whole than the rest of them
hollerin voice saintly fire
and still unbroken

I am missing a connection of the Arabic shuhada with the “sweet irish.” Educate me, please.

Sinéad O’Connor changed her name twice in her life. Her first name change was Magda Davitt in 2017 and then Shuhada’ Sadaqat in 2018. I felt it only right to title this poem with the name she would’ve preferred to have been known by. 😀

I thought it was about her, but I didn’t know about the name changes. Thank you, Tony.

You’re so welcome, Dolly. I only just found out about the name changes some days ago myself, so it was news to me too.

A sad loss mourned most everywhere
But from Mother Church- not a prayer.

I suspect she would not have wanted it. (Nice micro poem there!)
