Tumblevision #37

Le Jouet is a 1976 French film directed by Francis Veber, and I thoroughly recommend you check it out. It’s about a boy who buys a man to be his new toy. I found it an engaging exploration of how basic respect for people should always be more important than money. That’s a message we surely need right now.

  1. There was a movie here many years ago (maybe 80s or just into the 90s) that was a comedy called The Toy that kind of flopped at the box office. It wasn’t a horrible movie but it does get annoying watching a spoiled brat for about an hour and a half. There were obvious themes of respect and not treating people like things, but I think the public was expecting more laughs with the star Richard Pryor in it. It must have been the US version of Le Jouet. I miss the days of new and original ideas for films. I will look into this one.
