you say, “be encouraged”
i say, “be an egg”
so i can lay you, crack you
and eat you raw
i’m feeling righteous
like a man possessed

he didn’t walk free on the third day
he preferred to play possum instead
the stone of inevitability
was rolled away, but he chose to stay
in the tomb, he laid to reminisce
but god the father kept making calls
he ignored them and added the contact
to his black list, he was rather pissed!
the needy seek salvation
but who cares for the soul of a saviour?
“stop harassing me, you bearded schmuck!”
he prayed, snug in his burial cloth
“i wanna sleep in, have coffee in bed
not hear your muck! patronising cluck!”
so, he pulled out ‘jenga: day of doom’
blessed the morons who’d banned this comic
buried himself in its yellowed pages
happy on shrooms, human life resumed
the needy seek salvation
but who cares for the soul of a saviour?

this is a man’s world
still, better to be a girl
don’t ask me why, man

We huddled
Beneath the pier
With tangled pretzel legs.
Denim shorts, the color of the coast
Speckled with sand
Like salted dough.
We huddled
Beneath the pier
White and pink seashells
Small like rabbit noses
Kissed and nipped
Our toes.
We huddled
Beneath the pier
Bright umbrella tops
Plastic pails and shovels and
Towels spread.
Chairs perched upright,
A set of pelicans
Just like the two of us.
We huddled
Beneath the pier
As the ocean whispered
And clouds passed by
In dainty shapes
Each unique like
Vintage teacups.
We huddled
Beneath the pier
To farewell the boats
And sun
And greet the crescent
With every single star
And galaxy stitch.
We huddled
Beneath the pier
As if a storm brewed
Coffee pot strong,
No cream or sugar.
We huddled
Beneath the pier
As if we were in control
Of the summer.

Lordy lordy lordy!
It’s been quite a boat ride and a half, hasn’t it? It’s time to take down the Jolly Roger, ship oars, and uncork a bottle of good ol’ rum. And you, Dear Readers, have gone on this buccaneering journey with us. Just look at what we’ve achieved! A grand old sea shanty!
‘No prey, no pay’ as they say in the piratical code. So, no gold today! But we do have a bunch of words mashed together and lifted up in song. So, join with us as we belt out a tale of brave captain Ahab and his crusade to rid the world of evil dolphins! Oh, and let’s raise our tankards to obbverse who so ably put the lid on the whole matter.
wet backs, sharp fangs, dangerous dolphin eyes
waves for crowns and blood in the water
they wade through utter slaughter
captain ahab, hunting still, with wife and son and daughter
with a yo-ho-ho, break out the claret
war is hell, so we’ll grin and bear it
yo-ho-ho, slap up the ship’s parrot
and sing with us ’bout men of merit
their harpoons at the ready, of fearsome size
all prepared to greet the impending crimson tide
it seems that the gore storm will never subside
’til every flippin’ morsel’s been filleted, battered and fried
with a yo-ho-ho, break out the claret
war is hell, so we’ll grin and bear it
yo-ho-ho, slap up the ship’s parrot
and sing with us ’bout men of merit
