Jarrytale

modern Andersens write
without mistakes and blots
instead of candle light
they waste kilowatts

a tin soldier is no more than
a shell for microchips
Lukoje is a horseman
of the apocalypse

a little match girl
burns a town to ash
Thumbelina rides a merle
guarding a Mole’s arms cache

…the only misfit
was a nightingale
she doesn’t give a shit
she left the fairytale jarrytale

  1. I LOVE THIS! (Sorry – I didn’t mean to shout.) I’m now replaying (trying to remember) Anderson’s story of The Tinderbox with the three dogs with the huge eyes. I haven’t thought about that story in years but it was one of my favourites as a kid – despite the bloodshed, lol. ‘Jarrytale’ is a perfect description. I love this poem so much I wish I’d wrote it! 😀

  2. You do know that English is not my first language right. Gosh you have a way to puzzle me sometimes, you are good for my little brain. You keep me on my toes -language wise. Now I know a new word a jarrytale. Can’t wait to puzzle others 🙂
