modern Andersens write
without mistakes and blots
instead of candle light
they waste kilowatts
a tin soldier is no more than
a shell for microchips
Lukoje is a horseman
of the apocalypse
a little match girl
burns a town to ash
Thumbelina rides a merle
guarding a Mole’s arms cache
…the only misfit
was a nightingale
she doesn’t give a shit
she left the fairytale jarrytale

I LOVE THIS! (Sorry – I didn’t mean to shout.) I’m now replaying (trying to remember) Anderson’s story of The Tinderbox with the three dogs with the huge eyes. I haven’t thought about that story in years but it was one of my favourites as a kid – despite the bloodshed, lol. ‘Jarrytale’ is a perfect description. I love this poem so much I wish I’d wrote it! 😀

Love the associations that come with the rhymes, especially microchips – apocalype

You do know that English is not my first language right. Gosh you have a way to puzzle me sometimes, you are good for my little brain. You keep me on my toes -language wise. Now I know a new word a jarrytale. Can’t wait to puzzle others 🙂

Tati was quite delighted when she invented that word. She loves to play with language and words quite a lot. It’s one of her most endearing qualities! 😛

You’re very welcome, Elizabeth. I love when Tati shares a new poem. It’s a bit of an event for me, and I suspect for many of our readers too! This one made me laugh out loud when I first read it! 😛

Oh, my sincere apologies, I thought it was you who penned this one. Brilliant either way!

That’s quite alright, Elizabeth. I think the confusion is understandable given that I often post Tati’s poems on her behalf. 😛

Yes! That explains my madness.

So clever! But I hate not understanding all your allusions. What is a jarrytale?

It’s like a fairytale, only it’s unsettling. A tale that jars. A “jarrytale”! 😉
