It IS brilliant (unless there is a superior word). Powerful and beautifully formed.

Thank you, Rae. High praise indeed, and perfectly worded!

This is perfect. The imagery, the phrasing, the rhythm – I’m in love.

I have a question…is a lorry a hearse?

Thanks, Willow! And, actually, a lorry is a mid-sized truck for transporting goods and stuff. 🙂

the contrast in that last line made me laugh as well, but the whole poem really breaks my heart!
And both poems are crafted so beautifully!!

Aww I’m honoured it means that much to you! And I love them. You are very talented, says Captain Obvious. They are profound.

Tony, you have managed to capture the spirits of Charles Bukowski and Spike Milligan all on one page. Excellent 🙂

Damn, I should really read these two guys. I’m somewhat familiar with their names and all the bullet points of their lives, but not their actual work. Time to go and educate myself. Thanks, Davy! 😛

I think you will enjoy Bukowski. Your mindset and poetry share similarities.

Listentothebabe of the blog Hijacked Amygdala actually sent me a collection of his poetry and stuff, so I think I should probably crack that open and get a feel for him. 😀

Okay, this makes me think e.e. cummings and Shakespeare got together to write a bawdy, iambic, overly-long limerick.

They may very well have, and I just chose to add my name to it! 😛

I laughed at the end Tony – the lorry got him, so unexpected yet what else would have fitted in so well, to show just how wretched he was.

Oh yes indeed! That part just wrote itself really. 😛

I’m going to await some comments … right now I think this could be brilliant but I’m confused? Intrigued to see what deeper minds than mine say …

There’s no shame in that, my friend. I dig your candour. 🙂

Okay read the comments … didn’t help, quite the opposite … but read the piece again without thinking … mostly without thinking you’d forgotten a couple of lines … and of course your brilliance shone in my version of a mind.! Shame hadn’t crossed my mind (never does!) but being over analytical the curse of being a scientist … when trying to be arty! And no I haven’t dropped an f. Have a good weekend my friend.

Think along the lines of a group of religious folks drinking at a tavern, judging a drunk man that they know isn’t religious. 😉
