a black river rolls its waters in state
past a dirty hut’s stoop and manor’s gate
a white nymphea on the satin river’s breast
eyes enthralled like a bride’s at a funeral fete
the young maiden stands on an old dam crest
folding a long wedding dress to her chest
a cold wind hugs her shoulders, her ideal mate
it whispers to her in feverous behest
a black river rolls its waters to the strait
aloof, indifferent, like the decrees of fate
the young maiden on the satin river’s breast
the hearse carries the bride to her wedding fete

Time and tide sold her down the river.Nice circularity going on in this poem.

Beautifully written, Tetiana. The dark images with the fantastic elements of the black river and the white nimphea are lovely put on in words, beautifully dark and musical with perfect rhymes. Loved it!

I agree, Marta. She’s excelled herself here!

Tati, you always inspire me to darkness.
Blackness
Blackness takes on love’s ardor
Dark marriages make way for murder
Remove the organs of future life
Make mockery of husband and wife
Sullen vows rend the smoky air
What is incense to an evil stare
Where is the groom to this gloom?
What can goodness do to doom?
