i am shape, formerly human
a frosting sphere beneath heaven’s blear
insensate in the wake of chased dreams
waking to be, to be held by you
but you don’t care for all that i’ve shared
(in truth) do you
taking only what i can ill afford to give
yea, lay me down, do trollen sigh
into the bracement of dip and rime
hoar am i as the sea
you always said something about completing me
professed to crest open roil with gladness
but have you ever
i’m the end you always supposed me to be
and you’ll always be the end point of me
we reek of codependency
yea, lay me down, do trollen cry
cover thon over these lovers’ crimes
tease me with your lips, plunder me
sweet talk me again and again
squeeze me with your hips, squander me
junk me gently with the pain
yea, lay me down, do trollen fly
decrease the contours of my decline
was there ever a beginning to all of this
you’ll always be the end point of me
we reek of codependency
hoar am i as the sea
something about you completing me
and cresting the open roil with gladness
but have you ever
yea, lay me down, do trollen hie
bury me gone, away from all time
you won’t care for all that i’ve shared
(in truth) will you
taking only what i can ill afford to give
i am shape, formerly human
a thing to be abraded with use
an asset, a liability
you’ll always get to choose

Hiya, Vanessa. How’ve you and yours been? I’ve been up and down, but mostly up, so I count that as a bit of a win. 🙂

I guess I could say something similar…up and down…but I’m taking each day and today was lovely. Thanks 🙂
Mostly up is great to hear!!

Enchanting lines that should be read out loud to enhance the accent. Juliet would love you! 💖

I am stuck on “i am shape formerly human”. I don’t why that has moved me so. Perhaps, I identify with being shape or energy over being human…

I think there can be a positive connotation to this line, if by ‘shape’ one means a form of energy that has risen above its former cares and woes. However, in the overall context of the poem, the line represents how a person can be dehumanised until they feel like little more than an object to be used, hence the use of the word ‘shape’ here. But, all of that aside, I genuinely think your interpretation and reaction to this line is a completely appropriate and valid one. 🙂

The plain language used in an classic stanza form gave a unique style of your poetry. I often feel bizzardly enlightened after reading your work.

Bizarrely enlightened? That is seriously such a nice thing to say about my stuff, Carrie. Makes me grin from ear to ear. Thank you!

Very powerful, Tony. I am not sure it’s codependency, though, but perhaps…

Hm… Could be something that has the appearance of codependency, Dolly. I take your meaning!

The main indicator of codependency is manipulation which I don’t see in your poem.
When are you going to learn the guitar? This is another one that begs to be a ballad.

Oh, there’s manipulation going on in this poem, believe me, but it’s sneaky and underhanded. I’ve lost count of the many times I’ve been manipulated by others. I’m beginning to think this makes me a gormless idiot, but… oh well. I guess somebody’s gotta be. As for learning the guitar, I’m thinking that I’m probably not that serious about doing so. Not enough fingers and not enough innate talent!

Tony, being manipulated is still not CO-dependency, as long as it’s not mutual manipulation.
If you don’t have enough fingers, you can use your toes, I think.

I confess, I relate to the words – definitely a struggle I have.

It’s certainly a struggle that many of us would not care to admit to, V.J.
